    Our Communications Team seeks a visionary editorial leader to join our content team to lead our content development and strategy promoting stories about our research, programs, issues, and grantees. You will create and execute a content strategy to expand our audience, influence, and advocacy using website content, social media, email, partnerships, and content marketing. In this Editorial Director job, you’ll work in a fast-paced environment in which your leadership will be critical in driving our media presence and influence.


    Your Responsibilities Include



    • Develop story ideas that bring our content strategy to life
    • Work directly with grantees and scholars to develop interviews and stories
    • Serve as liaison between content team and other internal teams at CKI/F
    • Work with our media and events partners to develop related content
    • Assign stories to freelance writers and collaborate in developing them
    • Assign photographers to cover events and provide photos to accompany stories
    • Top edit stories and write headlines
    • Develop videos with outside production agencies
    • Collaborate with the digital product manager to create targeted content marketing campaigns
    • Participate in weekly Agile/Scrum meetings and planning
    • Manage an Associate Editor responsible for editing, copy flow, SEO and other content tasks



    Knowledge and Skills You Bring to the Organization


    • Strong editing ability, knowledge of grammar, and attention to detail
    • 7+ years-experience as an editor in news or communications roles
    • Excellent writing and editing ability
    • Create different types of media (text, videos, infographics) content for websites, email newsletters, and social media
    • Familiarity with and ability to implement SEO best practices
    • Use data reports and analytics to improve content performance


    Standout Candidates May Also Bring


    • Experience working with internal service teams and customers

    • Degree in English, writing, or communications

    • Working knowledge of Associated Press and Chicago styles

    • Familiarity with Adobe InCopy
